Although it is Spring and the flowers are beginning to bloom, over 100 children and families at Anderson Creek Primary are already looking towards the Fall as they participated in a Kindergarten Readiness Workshop coordinated by Harnett County Parents as Teachers in collaboration with the staff at Anderson Creek. Students from Campbell University’s Birth to Kindergarten Education Program also volunteered their time assisting with the two night event. Even with countless checklists, books, and online resources designed to help children be ready for school, parent preparation often gets overlooked and was the very reason Harnett County Parents as Teachers began this class. In its 5th year, parents participated in the workshop learning about current Kindergarten expectations and how to support their children through a successful transition as well as were provided with some take home activities to practice through the summer while their children participated in readiness activities in the cafeteria and classroom. Funding was provided through the support of the new allocations to non-profits by Harnett County and donations of supplies were also provided by Campbell’s Birth to Kindergarten Education Program as well as community members. |
